Kokie Cosmetics “What’s the Mauve?” Bundle Review

From the dictionary:

MAUVE

mōv,môv/

adjective

1 1.
of a pale purple color.

noun

1 1.
a pale purple color.”a few pale streaks of mauve were all that remained of the sunset”

2 2.
historical
a bright but delicate pale purple aniline dye prepared by William H. Perkin (1838–1907) in 1856. It was the first synthetic dyestuff.

Purple is my fav color!! There seems to be something so magical about it! It’s not quite blue, not quite pink, and when taking art class and learning about color theory, I’ve actually been taught that it doesn’t really exist on the color spectrum. When we say “purple,” or in this case “mauve,” what we really mean is a mixture of blue and red. We often confuse purple with violet, which is it’s own color on the spectrum.

It’s the end of the rainbow. It sits between blue and invisible ultraviolet light. It’s the shortest wavelength our human eyes perceive. It’s the color of royalty, individually and the crown chakra.

So I was very excited to receive this mauve bundle from the lovely Kokie Cosmetics to share with you all! This is my first time trying this brand and I just love it so far! This bundle in particular came with nail polish, lip liner, a solid lipstick and a liquid lipstick (I’m wearing the nail polish and liquid lipstick in the pic).

1. Mad About Mauve (Kissable Liquid Lipstick)

This is such a lovely liquid lipstick! It goes on smooth, it’s matte and stays on like a champ all day! Sure, a little came off on my coffee cup, but nothing too noticeable.

2. Mauve Nude (Lip Liner)

Everyone needs a good reliable lip liner! This one goes on so smooth, blends great with the liquid lipstick, and stays on! The only downside is that you have to sharpen it (I usually prefer the click pencil kind). But maybe I’m just lazy!

3. Mauve Along (Cream Lipstick)

This one is very pretty too, at least in the tube. But the color is not as saturated as the liquid one when I put it on. It looked more translucent than I’d hoped, so I prefer the liquid lipstick over this one unless I’m looking for just a small hint of color.

4. Mystic Mauve (Nail Polish)

As I write this, I’ve had this polish on for several days with little to no chippage so far!! The color is lovely, it dries rather quickly and looks high quality for polish I applied at home. It’s a nice break from the salon gel I normally get and a good chance to allow my nails to “breathe.”

My final rating for the full bundle:

It’s beautiful and mauve, very good quality, and I am pleased with Kokie Cosmetics and will keep using their products! The solid lipstick didn’t stick like I’d hoped, but the liquid makes up for that I believe!

CandyLipz Lip Plumper Review!

Yyyouch!! This one is a cool idea in theory, but it was a bit painful for me and left some unpleasant side effects! I had heard both good and bad things from people about these lip treatments, so I figured I would try it for myself since I wanted something done to my lips for a long time now. My bottom lip is really full and my top does NOT match!! I was hesitant after seeing what some ppl look like with lip injections 😵😵😵 and decided I would want a more “natural” approach if possible. When CandyLipz agreed to send me their product, my dumb ass assumed I would be getting a lipgloss with “plumper” in it. So that was my bad!! Anyway, I was super happy to have gotten not just one, but TWO plumping devices both in adorable lil boxes!!

The big one is the black and white one, and the apple is the “mini.” They are food-grade silicone and super cute! The big one came with a lil timer that you can either set for 2 or 4 minuets. Oh, and an awfully thick lil instruction manual that I probably should have read more in depth, but being the impatient person I am, I skimmed through it and went ahead with the treatment. I tried the large one first (maybe should’ve done the little one?!) You’re supposed to squeeze the air out, pucker your lips and put them in the opening, and release the pump while leaving the suction on your lips for either 2 or 4 minuets. I did 2. I DON’T RECOMMEND 4!!!!

OUCH! This thing hurt, but I pushed through it. It was my first time doing the treatment and figured it would hurt since I wasn’t used to it. And here’s the result:

UGHHH! My top lip did get a bit bigger but…THAT MARK!! I guess I put too much of my lips in there? My warning to you all is that these devices seem to work by literally breaking the capillaries in your lips and could do the same around your mouth if you aren’t careful! This was Saturday night, and it’s now Tuesday as I write this. The mark is still there but is diminishing. My lips also have a purple-ish tint in a few spots. As for the mark, I’ve been putting concealer on that shit and going about my day, but please if you try this BE CAREFUL!! Once the mark goes away, I do plan on using the small one with less suction and only putting a little bit of my lips in there. I am SO NOT getting a mark like this again!!

So my final rating for this product would have to be…

The packaging was way cute, CandyLipz is super nice for sending me both the big one and little one, and I may have used the product wrong. But that mark earns this thing some points off! I will be giving it another chance and hopefully writing another post when I figure out the secret to using it right!!

Product Review: Milk Makeup’s Matcha Cleanser

If you’ve been reading my posts regularly, you probably know I’ve discovered Milk Makeup products not long ago and I’ve become a huge fan! This one isn’t makeup, though. It’s a facial cleanser!

You can tell from this pic I’ve been using it a little over a week, so here are some things I want to mention about it:

It’s cruelty free and vegan, like all their products. I have very acne prone skin (although it’s gotten better in recent years) and this cleanser is free of harsh chemicals and full of soothing ingredients that won’t irritate my face. Of course, Matcha green tea is the main ingredient. I’ve also been using it a bit on my chest and shoulders, as I’ve experienced breakouts in those areas as well. It’s very good for removing makeup as well. This is some info that came in the package:

And here is my own simplified list of pros/cons.

Pros:

•Soothing green tea feels good on my skin

•packaging makes it easy to hold in the shower while washing your face, unlike bar soap.

•vegan and cruelty free

•portable container

Cons:

•It’s running out faster than I want it to (wish it was bigger!)

•It doesn’t really lather (I like soapy bubbles)

So there you go! My overall rating for this product would be 8.5 out of 10! I definitely love it and recommend it!

Product Review: Milk Makeup’s Holographic Stick

This one is a little different since I’ve literally been SO lazy about my everyday “street makeup” aside from the essential concealer and brow powder. But this highlighter I received from Milk Makeup has become a lovely addition to my cosplay essentials bag, and it WILL be making its way into my regular makeup routine!

This is the Supernova version. It gives my Killer Frost makeup just the sparkle I was looking for!

And here’s my “everyday” makeup. Of course, just like all Milk Makeup’s products, the Holographic Stick is vegan and cruelty free! It goes on nicely over my concealer as either a light accent or a full-face shimmer. Mermaids have to sparkle, of course!!

Happy sparkling!

Product Review: Milk Makeup’s Blur Stick!

I was SO EXCITED when I received this lil present in the mail from Milk Makeup and couldn’t wait to talk about this one! This is the Blur Stick by Milk Makeup. Before we get into the actual use of this product on my skin, let’s begin with item #1. It’s cruelty free! As a total animal lover, this makes me very happy and I’m always pleased to see more brands moving toward cruelty free products. Milk Makeup states on their website, “Yes, all of our products are cruelty-free. We do not test our products or ingredients on animals and we do not retail in any country that requires animal testing.” YAYY!

That being said, let’s talk about presentation. OMG THE PACKAGING!! I was so happy when I got to open this up!It came in an awesome little zipper bag that I can reuse, and did I mention the stickers? Heheeee!

This was my first experience with Milk Makeup, and at this point they’d already made me quite happy. But the real question is, how good is their product? So I’ll start by giving you the old back-of-the-hand comparison:Yeah, I know, my hands aren’t pretty and I have some awesome veins. So, the point of the Blur Stick is to eliminate shine, minimize pores, and keep skin soft so that makeup goes on smooth. After a few coats, it does do what it says it’s supposed to! You can tell from the second image that my hands are less shiny. You can also tell the pores are less visible. A huge selling point for this product is that it works on all skin tones despite the color it looks like in the tube!

As for my face, it keeps the smooth feeling throughout the day after I apply my makeup, without feeling oily. This product is awesome if you have oily skin because it eliminates shine without drying your face!

Product Review: Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil

Hey guys!! Hope your week was awesome and I’m baaaaaaccckkk with yet another product review! This time I’ve received the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in exchange for telling you all my opinion on this product, so here it is!!

Of all the freebies received so far, I have to say that this one is my FAVE!!! It comes in 7 different flavors/scents, and the one I’ve been using is #05 Tangerine.

It came in a nice little box, and the product packaging itself looks lovely and very classy. It’s small (just a little bigger than a regular chap stick) but that is ok since you don’t need to use a whole lot.

As for the scent, this Tangerine smells LOVELY! But the first thing that really got me excited about this product is the awesome applicator that comes in it. It’s big, soft and flat which really feels nice when applying it. It stays on well, and is a much better solution than chap stick for someone with frequent dry lips.

The only drawback is that it really didn’t last ALL day for me, but then again, that would be expecting a lot from any product! So here is my summary:

Pros:

-smells amazing

-soft applicator

-high-end packaging

-lasts longer than chap stick

Cons:

-you do have to re-apply it every few hours or so

-feels somewhat “sticky” when it dries

My final grade for this product?

9/10!

I encourage you to grab it here! If you’ve tried it, let me know what you think in the comments or post a review on Instagram and tag #urbanmermaid!

Product Review: Lancôme Sourcils Styler Brow Gel

Hello everyone! I am back with another product review! This time I’ll be talking about the Sourcils Styler Brow Gel by Lancôme. I recently received a freebie tube of this product in exchange for my honest review. So here it is!

This gel comes in a tube very similar to a mascara brush, only smaller. The color I received is Brun (03). It’s a good idea to be careful when applying this because it can come out rather dark. You don’t need to use a whole lot for it to show up on your brows. I began by applying it before the rest of my eyebrow routine.

You can tell it’s definitely there, but as for me, it wasn’t enough to rescue my scary eyebrows in and of itself. They may not look so scary now, but that’s after years of plucking, shaving, and trying many different methods to get them to look human! I suppose I could post my prom picture or my college ID photo as proof of the disaster that I’ve been keeping under control for so long, but to be perfectly honest I don’t want ANYONE to have to see that!! Anyway…

After applying the Sourcils Styler Brow Gel, I went on with my normal brow wax/ powder routine using my regular angle brush. It definitely gave my brows more thickness and definition when used in addition to my brow powder.

So my final word? Yes, it’s an awesome product and I would definitely recommend it. But if you have eyebrows that need a little (or a LOT) of extra love, this gel won’t be enough in and of itself. Use it as part of your brow routine, but maybe don’t let your brows rely on this alone! If you want a nice boost to your beauty routine, you can get it here!
